OVERVIEW OF THE CURRENT RICE MARKET

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, by the end of the first quarter of 2024, Vietnam’s rice exports reached more than 2.1 million tons of rice, worth nearly 1.4 billion USD, an increase of about 42% over the same period in 2023.Vietnam’s main rice export markets currently are the Philippines, Indonesia, China, Ghana, Malaysia, Singapore… The Philippine market currently accounts for more than 38% of Vietnam’s total rice exports.

India’s issuance of measures to restrict rice exports to stabilize the domestic market and the decrease in supply in some countries due to El Nino have boosted rice demand and prices in recent times. Vietnam is one of the countries benefiting from this market development.In the African market, Vietnam’s traditional rice importing areas are also being supported in rice production through many support projects from other countries to help these countries become self-sufficient in food.
